Rear Suspension

 

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

 

Remove the swingarm from the frame and linkage. See the Rear Suspension Removal topic for more information.

 

Disassembly

 

Remove the dust seal and washer from the right side of the swingarm pivot.

 

Remove the collar from the right side of the swingarm pivot.

 

Remove the dust seal, washer, and collar from the left side of the swingarm pivot.

 

Replace the swingarm pivot dust seals if they are in poor condition.

 

 

Remove the chain slider from the left side of the swingarm.

 

Inspect the drive chain slider for abnormal wear and damage. Replace the drive chain slider as needed.

 

Remove the spacer from the swing arm pivot.

 

Turn the bearings in the swingarm with a finger. If the bearings are rough or have excessive play they must be replaced. See the Bearing Replacement section below for details.

 

Remove the collars from the connecting link bearings. Inspect the collars for wear and damage. Inspect the bearings by turning them with a finger. The bearings should turn smoothly without roughness or excessive play.

 

Remove the collars from the shock arm bearings. Inspect the collars for wear and damage.

 

Inspect the bearings by turning them with a finger. The bearings should turn smoothly without roughness or excessive play. If the bearings need to be replaced see the Bearing Replacement section below for details.

 

Slide the chain adjusters out of the swingarm.

 

Bearing Replacement

 

Install new bearings so that their markings face out. Coat the new bearings and spacers in Suzuki Super Grease "A" before installation.

 

Suzuki Super Grease "A": 99000-25030

  

Remove the swingarm pivot bearings with a bearing puller.

 

Special Tools- Swingarm Bearing Remover: 09941-44910

 

Drive in the new swingarm pivot bearings. Install the large spacer between the bearings.

 

Remove the connecting link bearings with a bearing puller.

 

Special Tool- Bearing Remover: 09923-73210

 

Drive in the new bearings by their outer race with an appropriate driver.

 

Remove the shock arm bearings with a bearing puller.

Drive in the new bearings by their outer race with an appropriate driver

 

 

Assembly

 

Coat the collars in grease and install them into the shock arm.

 

Suzuki Super Grease "A": 99000-25030

 

Coat the collars in grease and install them into the connecting links.

 

Suzuki Super Grease "A": 99000-25030

Install the chain slider.

 

 

Coat the swingarm pivot collars in grease and insert them into the swingarm.

 

 

Coat the lips of the dust seals in grease. Install washers and dust seals onto the swingarm pivot.

 

Install the chain adjusters into the back of the swingarm.
